Secrets Of The Silent Witch Season 1 Review: The Greatest Fantasy Anime?

Published on September 9, 2025

Secrets of the Silent witch Monica Everett

Fantasy anime has always had a huge impact on the anime fandom, from evil demon lords to a simple slice of life story. This genre has always defined anime, and is what makes anime so enticing. Secrets of the Silent Witch only adds to this sentiment. The story feels like a romcom slice of life in a fantasy world much like another series, Frieren, although this one takes place in a school with a girl who is insanely strong and is a genius, however she is quiet and unsocial. Secrets of the Silent Witch started airing on July 5, 2025. This review is up until episode 9, and being now is the recap episode (9.5) i thought this would be the perfect time for a review!

A True To Form Anime Like None Other!

Secrets of the Silent witch Monica Everett surprised

From the very first episode this series has captivated my attention. From the art style to the cinematic angles. It's like the perfect blend of magic, mystery, and that slow-burn character growth that keeps you coming back for more, Secrets of the Silent Witch's first season is without a doubt one of the top anime this Summer anime season.

The first episode introduces the main character Monica Everett, showcasing some of her back story and setting up the plot for the season. Monica Everett is one of the seven sages, who are the most powerful magic users in the Kingdom of Ridill. Not only did the first episode portray how powerful Monica is, but how so many characters in the story look up to her as seen in later episodes. The series as the title says "Silent Witch" lives up to the title perfectly. Monica is this shy, powerful witch who's more comfortable with spells than small talk, and watching her navigate the royal academy while hiding her massive magical abilities keeps you coming back for more because a series with constant mystery or that feeling or thought in your head "when will people find out who she really is" makes you engaged for longer as opposed to the MC showing everyone their strength and after that point you get viewer fatigue.

The very root of this series is something that a lot of people have felt or have experienced at least once in their life (being shut in or anti-social) which is why it resonates with so many of us. As the story progresses we meet a lot of characters who on the outside put on a fake personality, some good, some bad, only to reveal later their true self, however the silent witch, Monica Everett, uncovers this in a genius way which adds depth and mystery to the series much like another series i know, Classroom of the elite.

What I love most is how it overturns the typical isekai tropes, that is instead of overpowered antics, it's all about her internal struggles and clever problem-solving, which reminds me of that episode where she uses her silent magic to eavesdrop on a conspiracy without anyone suspecting a thing or when she looks at the board and instantly uses her mathematical geniusity to come to the solution or answer. The pacing is solid too, there are no filler episodes dragging things down, just building tension toward what feels like a big reveal and sure, some side characters could use a bit more depth, but overall, it's refreshing and fun in a genre that's often too predictable. So if you're into light novels adapted right, this one's a gem and i can't wait for the rest of the season to drop!
