Top 10 Most Powerful Quotes from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Frieren quotes

Frieren is one of those anime that only comes along once every few years. The story dives deep into what it means to live forever. Some people think of it as joy but the reality is, eternity is too long. The series sets up all these things perfectly and to be honest, Frieren has become one of my best anime's, but don't take my word for it Sites like MyAnimeList even shows Frieren at the top of charts and it doesn't jump around. Frieren episode 1 was number 1 for over a year till Frieren season 2 came out and took the top spot over season 1. It doesn't go deep into fighting and flashy effects rather it sticks to its core aspect "a elf who lives forever". Its a story that takes place after the fact that the main villain of the story, The Demon King has already been slain.

What makes this show stand out is the small moments such as powerful quotes from characters in the series that really makes you think. So in this post we will go over my personal favorite quotes from the series and you can see our Review on Season 2 here.

Most powerful Frieren Quotes

  1. “Even though I knew humans had short lives why didn’t I try to get to know him better?" - Frieren

During the Funeral Frieren regrets not knowing more about Himmel and this is why she sets out on a journey to find him once again at the resting place. This scene is what made the anime series stand out for a lot of people. The crying is what really got us hooked. An elf who has lived for over a thousand years and does not cry, finally gets broken down after realising a humans life is very short.

  1. “Even the greatest heroes are forgotten someday.” - Heiter

This was a powerful quote from Heiter. His meaning behind this symbolises living in the present instead of what will be said after you have gone. He is a human and he acknowledges the sad but also happy nature of life and he urges that the party focuses on the current joy instead of lasting fame. So his indicating that while fame can only be temporary, the impact on others and your memories in that moment is what truly matters. This might sound cheesy but this correlates to all of us in real life as well. This series brings out the realities of the real world and ads it to this.

  1. “Even after a thousand years, I’m still dancing in the palm of my master’s hand.” - Frieren

Flamme Frieren

This Quote from Frieren really sent a shiver down my spine. Frieren says this because she realizes that her master, Flamme, anticipated everything she will do a very long time ago and what's more interesting, Flamme was a human, but not just any human. She was a legendary human mage and is considered the founder of humanities magic. Even though Frieren is an everlasting elf and despite her immense magical power and man pool, she is still following the path that her master layed out for her over 1000 years ago. Calling Flamme a legend is an understatement, that's for sure.

  1. “I’d been looking forward to the day when we’d all be together again.” - Himmel

Old Himmel Frieren

Himmel says “I’d been looking forward to the day when we’d all be together again.” during a meteor shower. This is one of the more prominent scenes in the series. The party is sitting under a meteor shower that takes place once every 50 years. He had been waiting for this day since he was young when Frieren promised that she knows a better place where they can see the meteor shower. During episode 1, 50 years had past and Himmel finally gets his wish where the party reunites one last time. This scene was very emotional and feels like a masterpiece even after a lot of times binge watching the series.

  1. “Then it will be Frieren’s job. She will carry our memories into the future.” - Himmel

Himmel

This quote hits hard. Himmel understands something that Frieren doesn't. Himmel uses this quote as he acknowledges a few truths at once. Humans aren't forever and they never last long. Frieren is an elf and will outlive everyone by centuries or longer and thirdly if no one carries the memories forward it will be like those lives never happened. This might seem selfish but that was not his intention. He is entrusting their legend to her and to keep it alive wherever her journey takes her next. This sentiment and the time they spent together changes her forever, but she only realised this when it was too late.

  1. “The greatest joy of magic lies in searching for it”. - Frieren

One of the reasons for the long journey to the northern continent is for Frieren to do odd jobs to get magic spells that have a more practical use. Such as turning red apples green or creating flowers. This isn't a new thing for Frieren, she is insanely strong and knows a lot magic attack spells, but she prioritises the more simpler ones for every day use and even refers to them as trivial spells, but she still loves collecting them none the less, even more so than the big flashy attack ones. They also have sentimental value for example the flower spell which is one of her favourite ones which she learned from her master, Flamme.

  1. “There Is Nothing Wrong With Being A Fake Hero” - Himmel

Himmel is known far and wide as the hero, but he really isn't one in the true sense of the word in this world. Even though he is not the prophesized hero, he still defeated the demon king. This is why he says there is nothing wrong with being a fake hero because a title isn't really what makes a hero, their actions and deed shine more.

  1. "Death Isn't The Only Goodbye In This Life" - Wirbel

Wirbel uses this quote in Episode 28. He says this at the end of the First Class Mage Exam to Frieren before he departs from the city, but meets again in the first episode of season 2. He urges Frieren to treasure her encounter because people lose connection when changing their life circumstances, meaning goodbye happens even when people are still alive.

  1. "Aura, the one standing in front of you, is a mage who has lived for a thousand years." - Frieren

Aura Frieren

One of the most epic and goose bumped episode in Frieren, is the scene when Aura challenges Frieren to a battle of mana capacity. Little did Aura know that Frieren has been surprising her mana for over 100 years. During this battle Frieren uses this quote just before destroying Aura at her own game.

  1. "I'm really happy that you tried to get to know me." - Fern

Much of this list has been mainly focused heavily on Frieren and Himmel, with relatively no attention to one of the series' other big character. That's why I wanted to include this one as something really special. This moment comes when Frieren first truly understands Fern's feelings toward her. After a brief misunderstanding around Fern's birthday, Frieren goes out of her way to find and give Fern a thoughtful gift. Fern sees just how much genuine effort Frieren put in and it finally clicks, Frieren cares deeply about her too. It's a beautiful and is a heartfelt bond that feels like true friendship… or perhaps more like a mother-daughter relationship, ALTHOUGH, sometimes hilariously enough, Fern seems to be the one acting like the responsible "mom". This scene stands out as one of the series' earliest pivotal and emotionally big moments (it happens all the way back in Episode 3). I think this quote wraps up the list nicely.
