Frieren has just received some bad news after what looked like a hopeful immediate future for the franchise since Season 2 of the anime will begin airing in January 2026. Luckily if you an anime only fan, you are still in the clear as this news is targeted at the manga, and there won't be a delay in the Anime as of the date of this post.
On Frierens official social media page via the X platform, they announced some bad news regarding the manga. The post (above) translates to "Thank you for your continued support of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. After careful consideration of the health of writer Kanehito Yamada and artist Tsukasa Abe, we have consulted with the creators and decided to temporarily suspend the series. Going forward, we plan to deliver the continuation of the story while adjusting the serialization pace and publication format."
So, this hiatus isn't the first as the manga series has been going on and off of a hiatus for some time now, and this is due to the authors health. The manga paused for a while in November and December of 2024, then went on an even longer hiatus in January 2025 before resuming in July and fans have expressed support, emphasizing the need for rest amid the demanding manga production schedules. So luckily despite the pause, the anime's second season is still on track for January 2026 which is a relief and luckily the anime doesn't rely too much on the manga as of yet but will likely in the future when it catches up to the manga, but this is still years away.
How long will this hiatus last?
So it still isn't announced when the series will come back from this hiatus, but one thing is clear, the series will definitely continue in the future, both the creators remain active and the editorial team will continue to support them. Most authors don't get this much leeway and health issues in this field of work is all too common, the authors are under a ton of stress to make sure that they can get the work out in time, so rather than risking the authors health a long rest is the best thing to do, even if it takes months to release a new chapter then so be it. This will make people even more hyped when the chapter does come out.
