Dragon Ball Super finally gets a season 2

Dragon Ball is one of those series that pretty much everyone knows about. Majority of the time when people are asked, What's your favourite anime? Dragon ball is one of the ones that always stands out and for good reason. Me personally, I've been a fan of the series since I was a kid. Being born in the 90's I'm sure a lot of peoples childhood with this series was much like mine. I remember when the clock strikes a certain time I was Infront of the TV, same time everyday from Monday to Friday, and on weekends I would watch the repeat episodes from that week. It was truly an unforgettable time.

A lot of people have been asking for years for a sequel to the long running Dragon Ball: Super series. We've had hopes before but most of the time it was just rumours that got shut down, now however we can all take a breath and simply just wait for the release.

Dragon Ball Season 2 was announced!

Today during the Genkidamatsuri which was held at Majuhari Messe in Japan, Dragon ball celebrated their 40th anniversary and many major news came out of this event.

During the Genkida stage part 1, the studio announced a new anime sequel titled "Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol." This story will be canon and will follow of from where Dragon Ball super season 1 left off, The Tournament of Power which aired from 2015 to 2018. This new story also appears in the manga as Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc" and follows Goku and Vegeta working together as with the peacekeepers of the galaxy.

Is this Sequel a movie or series

As of now there's no ETA or confirmation whether this will be a movie or a series, however the chances point toward it being a series and there is one reason why I believe this. The first season of Dragon Ball Super had a total of 42 chapters, covering from the God of Destruction to the Universe Survivor Saga, also known in the anime as the Tournament of Power. This new arc " The Galactic Patrol" has a total of 26 Chapter going from Chapter 42 to 67. That's half of what Dragon Ball super had, surely that can't fit into a movie right?

In the New Teaser, it showcases Goku and Vegeta wearing a battle armor uniform with the Galactic patrol symbol on the chest. We also see some kind of Spaceship that they are standing on and other than that, no other teasers or anything else was unveiled in the teaser, so I'm guessing we are still in the early stages and it's been so long between major seasons that we cant for sure give a release pattern. So at the moment we have nothing to go on, so all we can do now is wait and see. The marketing for the new series would likely also start kicking off very soon. We could see more trailer with the animation style and a release window or a more exact release date.

New Kai series Announced

Additionally we also got a new update at this event that a new series will also be released in the Fall of 2026. While this is not technically a Kai version of the series, the main aspect is still the same. This new series will be a remake of the Battle of Gods arc.

In their description on the Official site they state that this series has been in the works for a few years now and is a newly enhanced edition with more scenes added and an upgrade to the animation quality. So this is not just some shortened version, rather a complete remake but not a reboot, this one is enhanced so think of it as an upgrade. This new one will enhance the old one for new audiences because obviously the tech has improved by a lot since that time. If this one receives enough praise I have no doubt we will get a remake of the entire series, and it would also be GREAT if they reboot the old dragon ball series as well.

A new age of dragon ball is beginning

After hearing all this news and updates, something in the air just feels different for the series. It feels like they are wanting to revive the franchise and make it even bigger than before, but personally no one can beat the legend himself, Akira Toriyama, But they will be able to come close and that's what me and a lot of people are hoping for. I'm really looking forward to watching this franchise evolve and hopefully remake all the old series so the newer generation can experience what a lot us felt while growing up with this series. This does sound kind of cheesy but Goku was a role model and a lot of people learnt what it means to be a fighter and a good honest person from Goku and the Z fighters. We are getting a new season that will hopefully be a continues one (50+ episodes) and a remake of the first arc in the Super series so we will all be eating good for a long while.
