The apothecary diaries is gearing up to celebrate it's second anniversary for the anime. The first season started airing on the 22 October 2023, and in just 7 days time from the date of this post, the anime will have reached it's second year milestone. This milestone is common for many anime that have 2 seasons, however what makes this event or day so special is that it's the perfect time to reveal more news on the future of the series, this normally includes special PV trailers looking back and could also include major news for a new season or "sequel."

Today on October 15, 2025, the official X account of The Apothecary Diaries announced a new PV trailer that will be released on TOHO's official YouTube channel, this post also states "Latest information will be revealed" this is likely referring to the "sequel" that was announced shortly after season 2 finished airing. This new PV will be revealed on TOHO's official channel at 6 p.m JST on October 22nd.

What is the "sequel" that the studio announced?

Shortly after season 2 concluded, the studio revealed a new sequel teaser trailer (above) showcasing a field of wheat and what looks to be a country side. This closely aligns with volume 5 of the light novel which is the next story that will carry on from season 2. At the beginning of the video it states "The story continues", however the studio didn't exactly say that Season 2 was announced, although they did say a "sequel" meaning this could even be a movie. If we look at their website, there is a title that says movie and once you click this link it takes you to the news section with the sequel (above) trailer. Which could be a new movie, but without any official confirmation it is purely speculation.

What makes this show so spectacular is pretty much everything. From the amazing animation down to the storyline and each characters background which is fleshed out in a Japanese setting and to be honest, it's such a breath of fresh air seeing an anime do so good without any fantasy tropes in it. There is not big fight scenes, no sky ranching magic, just a young genius girl who serves as a maid and an apothecary.

Season 1 and 2 of The Apothecary diaries are available to watch on Netflix and Crunchyroll. So with the anniversary only days away and a potential season 3 or new movie on the horizon, we can look forward to even more apothecary diaries, so mark your calendars for October 22nd!
