One of the Most Favourite Horror anime "Dark Gathering" will be making its return!

Horror anime has always been more of a niche community, well at least compared to the action shonen and typical isekai fantasies. You have shows like Death note, although not primarily a "horror" more of a phycological thriller, it still has that essence of a horror anime and some even consider it the medium. So although horror in the anime niche isn't widely considered popular, you do have those breakout hits, and we just got news of one of them is now receiving a second season!

On October 28, 2025, it was announced that season 2 of the July 2023 sleeper hit anime, is officially coming back for a second season!

OLM, the animation studio behind season 1 will also be making it's return to animate the second season and Hiroshi Ikehate will also be back at the helm for this upcoming season.

The image that was released, doesn't really show us any teasers for the new season, however it is a good looking artwork none the less. It gives off a dark hell moody vibe which has always been the mood of the first season and given the sucess of the first season, we would likely get roughly the same animation because of the returning studio, that means we can expect a well overall story pacing and animation.

No official date or window was announced yet but if i had to sepcualte i would say we could expect a new season in late 2026 or possibly early 2027. The first season (25 episodes) adapted up to chapter 35 of the manga with the series at over 68 chapters and still releases monthly chapters

Plot:

Dark Gathering follows Keitaro who is a college student who can see spirits but avoids them after a traumatic past encounter. His life takes a bad turn when he becomes the tutor of Yayoi, a young genius girl who also sees ghosts although unlike him, she actively hunts them to find the spirit that took her mother. Along with their friend Eiko. This group travels to all the haunted locations where they confront vengeful spirits as they collect them for Yayoi’s mysterious goal.
