The long awaited return of Frieren is finally happening, and this new trailer just proves it!
Frieren has always been one of the anime you think of when someone mentions fantasy in the anime space. The series is more focused on the meaning behind everything, its not some brawled out battle between good and evil, although, when a battle does break out, it makes it so much more engaging because of the focus on the storyline.
After the end of season 1 fans have been eagerly awaiting a new season, since then we have gotten a release date which is set for January 16, 2026. This means that Frieren will join the already hyped up anime line-up of shows such as Jujutsu Kaisen season 3, Osho No ko season 3, Hells paradise season 2, among many others. Frieren will also be Streaming on Crunchyroll when it airs, same as season 1, although the dub date has not been announced yet.
Fans now have something to be excited for!
Today we just go a new trailer which shows that the studio didn't hold back anything. This trailer, especially the fight scenes shows how much effort the studio put in and I for one cannot wait!
The trailer showcases Frieren, Fern and Stark heading north to reach "heaven." This trailer is a mixed bag, showcasing a slice of life journey with some intense fight scenes which is very reminiscent of the first season which fans love.
This trailer showcases one of the next arcs in the story which is called "The Continued Northern Travels" arc. This arc will continue right where season 1 left off. The first season ended where Frieren and her party passed the first class mage exam, and were preparing to head out and continue their travels North. We also got more back story on Frieren and the Great mage Serie who was Frieren's master's master and is currently the head of the Continental Magic Association. In the final episodes leading to the first seasons conclusion, we see Serie as she has a final interview with the mages that will become first class'.
One of the stand-out points in the trailer is by far the fight scenes. We see Stark hitting down his Battle axe and creating an explosion starting off the battle scene sequence of frames. This animation is very similar to the way the first season was animated when it comes to the battle scenes. So we can expect a very good season full of spectacular animation and the chill slice of life moments that all the Frieren fans have come to love from the top anime on MyAnimeList, "Frieren."
Based on the previous season's pacing, the new season of Frieren will likely adapt 60 chapters from the current 147 manga chapters (ongoing but currently on a hiatus as the publication date of this post) This would be roughly from chapter 61 (ending of the First-Class Mage Exam arc & Beginning of the Continued Northern Travels arc) to roughly chapter 120 (Goddess's Monument arc) So we can expect a good overall pacing, but this is still speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.
An new ending theme song!
Via Frierens official website, it was announced that a new written song titled "The Story of Us" will be the new ending song of season 2 and will be performed by singer songwriter Milet, who also performed the theme song for season 1.
The theme song "The Story of Us" will also be available for streaming from midnight on Friday, January 16, 2026, the same day as the anime premieres.
