That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Chapter 140 just got released and it's one of the biggest showdowns so far. Leon Cromwell, who seemed arrogant at first, has his eyes set on Rimuru because of Chloe. Grandbell Rosso also enters the fight against Hinata. This new chapter shines a different light on him (Leon Cromwell), maybe he isn't so bad after all.

The chapter continues the story in a big leap compared to the previous ones that felt dragged on by politics and long dialogues, which is honestly completely fair given that this is a manga adaptation of the light novel. But in all honesty, this is what make the series stand out.
Chapter 140 carries on the epic battle between Rimuru, Hinata, Grandbell Rosso, and Shion.
Events Leading Up to Rimuru vs Leon Cromwell
This arc is the ongoing Western Upheaval arc and things start getting really interesting now as the story looks to the future and introduces big players, especially after that interesting previous chapter with the epic confrontation between Diablo and Guy Crimson.
This arc forces tensions between the Holy Empire and the Tempest allies. One of the reasons for Granbell Rosso’s attack on Rimuru is because of his deep hatred and revenge for the killing of his granddaughter Mariabell, who was taken out by Yuuki after trying to set up a trap to kill Rimuru.
In earlier chapters while Mariabell was trying to escape after being defeated by Rimuru. Yuuki confronted her, betrayed her and finally took her power as she ended up pierced in the heart. This is why Granbell Rosso blames Rimuru for her death and wants revenge, even though ultimately it was Yuuki who delivered the final blow.
However, at the same time, Granbell Rosso's actions aren’t driven purely by personal reasons alone, Rimuru is seen as a major threat to his control and long-term plans since very early in the story. This makes the fight much more complex than simple revenge.
During this battle vs Granbell Rosso, Rimuru was left to free the summoned otherworlder children from Granbell’s locking curse, while the battle continued with Shion and Ranga vs an insectoid powerful being, and Hinata vs Granbell, Leon Cromwell eventually enters the scene.

Rimuru Faces Off Against Demon Lord Leon Cromwell
In chapter 140 Leon Cromwell enters the field while the battle was still waging between rimuru's crew and Granbell Rosso. Leon has an obsession with chloe, his childhood friend from their original world, and views Rimuru as getting too close with her.

Rimuru has been protecting her and the rest of the kids who all studied under Shizu, and Leon sees this as a threat to his own connection with her. However, things take a bit of a turn during this interaction.
His real motivation seems to be to protect Chloe as a big brother rather than anything intimate. Leon seems to have come to check out Rimuru directly, and size him up as a potential rival, or possible ally, regarding his long lost childhood friend.
Rimuru finally holds his promise from Walpurgus. He told Leon "Listen I'm not saying this because she asked me to but let me slug you." then Rimuru gives him a good punch to the face. However, as stated in the chapter by Great Sage, his guard was not up and the punch will result in a direct hit. This portrays Leon in a completely different way, he allowed Rimuru to hit him. What could this mean?
Just before the chapter ended, Rimuru pulled out his sword and wanted a direct confrontation with leon, they bash swords and Rimuru says "let's talk about it right now" referring to why he summons children to this world.
Although this chapter felt very short a lot happned in this chapter. Leon and Rimuru finally face off, things get even more heated between Hinata and Granbell, and Shion and Ranga face off with an enemy who is much more powerful than them. The next chapter will likely be a fitting conclusion to this stand off.

Editor's Thoughts
This Chapter brought out some of the biggest players all in one room. At the start we had Luminous, then Leon, Rimuru and Granbell. The story feels like it's picking up a lot and the next few chapter will be something interesting to see.
This series has always been one of my favourites, may it be in readable format or even the anime, because of the world building and deep lore. This chapter involves a lot of battle scenes with Hinata against Rosso, but the next chapter will very likely see these battles come to a conclusion, because Hinata will be entering her final form (same appearance with wings when she fought Rimuru the second time). And I for one cannot wait to see how this unfolds, especially with Leon and Rimuru. — Dean
