Rimuru Tempest's Evolution: From Weak Slime to True Dragon God – Full Power Breakdown

Rimuru Tempest, one of isekai's most famous characters has unlimited potential, and I mean that literally. Rimuru started from an ordinary salaryman to someone who is nature itself. After all, a True Dragon was the creator of the Tensura universe.
True Dragons are the avatars of nature and fundamental forces. They can even shape the very world they live on through destruction: however, in Rimuru's case, he changes the world through evolution and world building. Which is something very few anime get right. Most other popular anime like Solo Leveling for example have that linear style, and very few can get the world building aspect right. Don't get me wrong, anime in the linear style absolutely works great, but sometimes a good world building strategy just scratches that itch.
What's great about world building anime is that the lore goes very deep, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is no exception to this. On the contrary, it's one of the only anime that does this right--well, at least that's my personal opinion. Rimuru not only turns a small goblin camp into one of the most modern cities in the world, but he improves with it through his evolutions.
Rimuru Tempest's Evolutions
Rimuru has one of the best evolutions in anime. They aren't that much different from each other and actually make sense, how and why he got to each new form. With the Light Novel series now complete, we finally have all his forms and we will list them all below.
Slime (Initial Reincarnation Form)
Slime is Rimuru's initial form in the series after being reincarnated into a new world. This form is a cute, slightly blue and translucent slime which is about 40cm in diameter (guessing). Although this is a bottom-tier monster (extremely weak).
This form brings back a lot of memories for me, simply because it was his very first form other than his Japanese one or human form. It's not my top favourite like later on in the series, but it does hit with a lot of nostalgia.
While this form is the weakest, the bonuses stack because of Rimuru's ability: Predator, which allows him to analyze anything to steal skills and powers and store it. Another great addition to his arsenal is Great Sage which acts as an AI translator of sorts. While using this form he gains many skills from other monsters because of the one skill he had: Predator.
All the abilities for this form include:
Predator (Unique Skill) - This skill devours or absorbs targets. Then analyzes them instantly, and steals or copies their skills/powers/abilities, and stores everything in an internal space almost like a compressed new dimension. Success chance also decreases if the target has strong resistance or a strong consciousness.
Great Sage (Unique Skill) - An intelligent advisor of sorts (like an internal AI) that processes vast information of the world and everything in it, answers questions, runs appraisals and analyses, suggests strategies, measures time precisely, and optimizes skill use or integration.
Absorption / Dissolve (Innate slime trait) - Engulfs, dissolves, and breaks down consumed matter or creatures to extract nutrients or magicules. We see this ability when Rimuru creates a potion at the very beginning of season 1.
Self-Regeneration - High recovery from physical damage. Can reform from fragments or small remnants of body mass.
Magic Sense (Early sensory ability, precursor to Universal Perception) - This ability detects surroundings, such as magicules, and presences without traditional eyes or ears. This was first gained when Rimuru met Veldora in the cave in Season 1.
Human Form (Mimicked After Absorbing Shizu)
This is Rimuru's first and only humanoid form that was obtained through using Predator to absorb Shizu's body and soul to preserve her memories and fulfill her final wish (saving her students and making Demon Lord Leon acknowledge her). This form is one of the most pivotal turning points in the serie: it transforms the lonely slime into a village leader of Tempest.
Personally one of the most epic forms in the anime, especially at the beginning when you start thinking the series is getting boring (if you had no knowledge of the actual story).
At this point the village was still a goblin village, but well on its way to becoming a city. This form allows Rimuru to interact more with humans and is often Rimuru's go-to for more social scenes and when he does battle. This is when Rimuru truly feels like a real character that you can connect more with, instead of the blob.
Core abilities retained from slime form:
Predator
Great Sage
Physical attack resistance
Pain Nullification
Magic Sense
Self Recovery
New abilities gained from Shizu:
Degenerate (Extra Skill) - Synthesis and separation. This allows Rimuru to combine skills, magic or materials into a new form. Enables enhanced skill modification and optimisation (but only when used alongside Great Sage)
Human Form - Can change at will between human and Slime
Fire Resistance / Ifrit - Higher resistance to fire and heat due to Shizu’s connection to Ifrit and Ifrit can be summoned.
High-level fire magic
Flame manipulation
Demon Lord Seed Holder (After Consuming Orc Disaster Geld)
During the Orc Lord arc in the light novels and the anime which appears around season 1 episode 14 or Volume 2 to 3, Rimuru devours the Orc Disaster and inherits the seed inside him. This grants him the "potential" to become a demon lord. However this does not make him one, rather it's one of the requirements to become one.
This arc being adapted was a masterpiece, it kept you on the edge from beginning to end, and who can't forget the "leader of the village, Gobta" HAHA.
In terms of appearance, he appears very slightly older, around 9 years old (the exact age is just speculation). This stage boosted Rimuru's magicule count reserves and overall existence value and pushed him to special A rank and potentially higher.
New abilities gained from devouring the Orc Disaster:
Gluttony (Unique Skill) - Predator merges with Geld's Starved (or otherwise known as "Starving Ones") which is a unique Skill to become Gluttony (also known as the Gluttonous One). This upgraded version greatly expands the devouring range and efficiency. This also increases success chance on targets, even those who are resistant to it previously, but still wont work on very powerful beings.
Demon Lord Seed (Qualification/Status) - Grants the "potential" to become a full True Demon Lord.

True Demon Lord / Demon Slime (After Harvest Festival Awakening)
This is one of the most epic and pivotal moments in the entire series. Rimuru receives this form after the Harvest Festival, where he sacrifices 10,000 human souls to revive Shion and the others after the human nation attacked.
In terms of appearance, this evolution changes Rimuru's human form dramatically and transforms his slime form from a normal slime to a Demon Slime. This form also dramatically increases his magic reserves by 10x the previous amount, which is huge. This also helped Rimuru in the naming of Diablo. If he had named him before becoming a Demon Lord, he wouldn't have evolved further.
This is my personal favorite scene in the anime. Seeing Great Sage, or now "Raphael," taking on a more human-like approach instead of the old robotic talking.
New abilities gained from Demon Lord evolution:
Beelzebub (Lord of Gluttony) - Beelzebub is the evolved form of Rimuru’s Unique Skill Gluttony.
Raphael, Lord of Wisdom (Ultimate Skill) - This is the evolved form of Great Sage. It is an incredibly advanced analytical skill that provides super-intelligent predictions, battle assistance, skill synthesis and optimization, but more importantly, It also shifts to a more human-like, conversational tone instead of robotic responses. This make Great Sage feel more alive.
Infinite Regeneration - This is the evolved form of Ultraspeed Regeneration. It allows instant regeneration of his material, spiritual, and astral bodies, including from near-fatal damage to the soul, BUT as long as there's sufficient magicules available.
Universal Perception - This is the evolved form from Magic Sense and provides omnidirectional, ultra-long-range sensing of magicules, heat, vibrations, lifeforms, presences, and even environmental details.
Enhanced Body Double - This is the evolved form from Body Double. This time it creates superior clones for combat and multitasking, or even deception.
Universal Thread - This is the evolved form from Sticky Steel Thread. This time it produces an extremely strong thread for binding, cutting, manipulating objects, or even forming weapons and structures.
Black Flame-Thunder - This is a powerful new attack skill that fires black lightning infused with destructive black flames.
Demon Lord's Haki - Personally one of my favorite, it releases an overwhelming demonic aura or pressure that can paralyze, intimidate, or even stun weaker opponents just by presence. It's almost like Conquerors Haki from One piece just not as big
True Dragon (Consuming Veldora's Factors)
This form is the ultimate evolution, and transforms Rimuru into a full-fledged True Dragon. This comes long after he consumed Veldora using Predator at the beginning of the series. I'm guessing he could have become one very early on, but that is just me speculating.
This form happens much later on in the series. Raphael analyzes the dragon core and the factors over time (since the beginning of the series). But Rimuru only truly ascends during the battle against the Eastern Empire, which is roughly around light novel volumes 15 to 16. Ciel (the evolved form of Raphael) integrates Veldora's essence with Rimuru's slime soul and magicule reserves. This, in a sense, reincarnates his body into the fifth True Dragon in the series.
This will probably break the internet when it gets adapted. It will be anime-changing, like when Goku attained SSJ1 or Luffy got Gear 5. I honestly can't wait for this!
New abilities gained from True Dragon evolution:
Azathoth - This is the evolved form of Beelzebub. This is Rimuru’s ultimate evolved skill which was born from the fusion of Beelzebub, Raphael/Ciel, and his True Dragon factors. It allows him to manipulate void and nihility at a fundamental level, erasing matter, energy, magic, and even existences themselves.
Attribute Conversion / No Fixed Element - Rimuru can now freely change or adopt any attribute of the True dragons such as storm, scorch, frost, etc. This allows total adaptability in combat and magic. He is the only True Dragon who can do this. This is due to dragon factor integration. Meaning he adapts through skill processing, not unlimited spontaneous attribute creation.
Dragon Spirit Haki - This is an upgraded and more overwhelming aura/pressure unique to True Dragons. Rimuru can now emit destructive demonic/draconian presence that can paralyze and intimidate others
True Dragon Release - This is a variant of Parallel Existence which means it is an advanced application of the dragon factor manipulation that allows Rimuru to control, store, and release the essence of Veldora and Velgrynd.
True Dragon Magic - Rimuru now has access to high-level draconic spells, including enhanced versions like Storm Dragon Magic for example: Death-Heralding Wind, Scorch/Acceleration which is magic from Velgrynd, and other elemental/space-time manipulations tied to True Dragon attributes.
Instinctive Reaction / Automatic Resistance - This is a passive, True Dragon-level instinctive activation of resistances or countermeasures against any hostile force, threat, or attacks detected.
Ultimate Slime (post-True Dragon reincarnation / final major form)
This is Rimuru's post True Dragon form, and i got to say, HE IS EXTREMELY POWERFUL NOW. This is where his slime body is fully reborn and fused with the True Dragon essence. In this form he intergrates all of his Ultimate Skills for example: Beezebub, Ciel, and Azathoth. This allows him to gain almost limitless magicules. It combines the shapshifting and absorption of a slime with immortality and the destructive power of a True Dragon. This makes him the pinnacle of his canon abilities.
While he does change slightly, the differences are subtle but still symbolic. The True dragon essence now adds a subtle aura or shimmer around his body. So ultimately Rimuru still looks like a slime at his core, but in Ultimate Slime form makes his body radiate rue Dragon energy. There is no form higher than this.
Skill gained from this final form:
Void / Nihility Manipulation - This is the evolved for of Azathoth. NowRimuru can erase matter, energy, magic and even existence at a more fundamental level.
Dragon Spirit Haki (Upgraded)
Ultimate Spatial / Matter Control - Rimuru can now manipulate space, matter and energy wavelengths at the extreme levels. Can create barriers, teleports and can alter the environment effortlessly
Editor's Thoughts
Rimuru becomes one of the most powerful beings in the world by the end, and I honestly can't wait for that moment to be adapted. Now that the Light Novel is finished, it's kind of sad really. Hopefully we will still get side stories or even a sequel with another new protagonist set in the same world. But whatever the author has planned, it will definitely be legendary (speculation, but I hope he makes another one, Hehe). — Dean
