In this world of Solo Leveling, Jinwoo's rise from an E rank to the Shadow Monarch was an incredible ride, and I'm not going to lie, this is probably one of the most hyped up stories.

However, with that being said, the story isn't what everyone was after, rather the evolution of Sung Jinwoo, and more importantly his shadow army.

Jinwoo has the ability to extract and command the shadows that were slain in battle. What any other army in every world lacks, that Jinwoo's army has, is fierce loyalty. But these aren't just any ordinary minions—they're elite warriors that were actually born from legendary battles.

This army's skills are also amplified by the monarch of shadows' will (Jinwoo is the current Shadow Monarch). Among this army of Jinwoo's, there are extremely powerful titans that are in a commander position of sorts.

In this article we will go over all those elite warriors, their power and why this army is the ultimate force.

The Strongest Shadows in Solo Leveling

The Shadow Army is a force of unparalleled strength and are immortal because they are technically ethereal undead soldiers who are created through Jinwoo's Shadow Monarch powers, also called Shadow Extraction. This power revives the shadow of defeated monsters, bosses or even human hunters. They come back as black smoky warriors who are then stored indefinitely in his shadow and can be summoned at will.

Bellion (Grand Marshal)

Bellion is the undisputable strongest shadow in Sung Jinwoo's army. His origin goes back eons as the very first shadow created by the Shadow Monarch named Ashborn. So, there is no doubt that he would be the strongest because not only was he the first shadow, but he also served as Ashborn's lieutenant through countless wars and retained this rank even after Ashborn's death before pledging absolute loyalty to Jinwoo after inheriting the Shadow Monarch's full power.

Bellion towers over all with his black armor and angelic wings, meaning he can attack from the skies or land. Bellion wields a massive centipede-like blade that extends to his will and even turns into a sword for close combat.

While all other shadows join Jinwoo through extraction, Bellion is the only exception to this. As the original Grand Marshal and lieutenant of the previous Shadow Monarch. Bellion does not get extracted, rather he is always a shadow.

After defeating the Beast, Frost and Plague Monarchs, Bellion and Ashborn's previous shadow army pledges their loyalty to Jinwoo. This takes place before the Final Battle Arc. In-between chapters 166 to 188 Bellion arrives with "THOUSANDS" of Ashborn's soldiers when a gigantic gate opens in Seoul and pledges their loyalty to Jinwoo.

Beru (Marshal)

Beru is the extracted shadow of the Ant King, which is the ultimate ant born from the ant queen's mana during the Jeju Island reawakening arc. Beru is bloodthirsty and targets weak spots mercilessly and is intensely loyal to Jinwoo and has Jinwoo's complete trust, because after all at the end of the original series, he was a guardian of sorts to Suho, Jinwoo's son.

Beru is a massive humanoid ant with a black exoskeleton and neon glowing eyes with smoky wings that can even go at hypersonic speeds. His arsenal of abilities include superhuman strength, speed, and durability. He also possesses healing magic, size manipulation and poison that paralyzes his enemies.

Jinwoo turns Beru into one of his soldiers during the Jeju Island arc. Before his extraction, he terrorized the island and almost wiped out the raiding S-Rank hunters sent to kill him. And obviously he was no match for Jinwoo. Jinwoo beat him in strength, speed, and pure skill. This pivotal moment appears around chapter 105 and during the Season 2 Finale, around episode 11 and 12.

Igris (Marshal)

Igris stands out as one of the key supporting figures in Solo Leveling, especially throughout the beginning arc of Season 2. He first appeared as the Blood-Red Commander during Sung Jinwoo's Job Change Quest right at the end of Season 1.

Long before even turning into a shadow, Igris was an elite human knight from a far distant time in the past. He went on to become one of Shadow Monarch Ashborn’s most dependable lieutenants, obviously not above Bellion, but just under him. And served as one half of the “Two Wings” in the original shadow army, with Bellion being the other wing.

Igris is known for being clad in sleek black armor which radiates a purple glow and becomes Jin-woo's very first and most devoted general, eventually rising to the rank of Marshal. He perfectly embodies strict discipline, true knightly honor, and unwavering loyalty and is widely celebrated for his masterful sword skills and is often regarded in the lore as one of the best swordsmen in the entire army.

He also has tremendous strength and speed, polished fighting techniques, the telekinetic power called "Dominator’s Touch," potent mana-based regeneration. being a marshal.

Although he is not officially the leader, he regularly steps up as a battlefield commander and a guiding mentor to the army.

Tusk (General)

Tusk is a General rank shadow soldier and the leader of the shadow mages in Sung Jinwoo's Shadow Army. He was extracted from the High Orc Shaman Kargalgan, which is the boss from the Demon Castle and the Hunters Guild Gate arc.

Tusk possesses immense strength, speed, and mana-linked regeneration. He wields gravitation magic to levitate and crush enemies as seen during the fight in episode 6. Plus he has a vast array of devastating "Hymns" spells, which are amplified by the Orb of Avarice.

More abilities include Hymn of Giants, which is his colossal growth, AoE blasts like Blazing Fire and even Hellfire, debuffs such as Agony for pain, Blindness, Slumber for stamina drain, and Frenzy to weaken defenses.

Sung Jinwoo obtained Tusk during the Hunters Guild Gate Arc by extracting the shadow of Kargalgan, which was the High Orc Shaman boss, and to be honest, this was personally my favorite fight in season 2, other than the Beru fight which was personally my favorite.

Editor's Thoughts

Overall Solo Leveling is just a complete masterpiece. I remember watching the first season and thinking "yeah, it's okay I guess", but then since the second season aired on Crunchyroll I was blown away right from the very first episode and it soon become one of my favorites next to other great anime like Reincarnated as a Slime.

Of course, I had not read the webtoon till I was completely immersed in season 2. So doing this list brought back a nostalgia from reading the webtoon for countless hours after season 2 finished. And "WOW, what a story that was".

Not only does this story show the evolution of Jinwoo, but it also adds extra flair with his generals, and my personal favorite is still Igris. His knightly charm and devoted knight personality is something that I still think about, and to be honest, he should have been the strongest, just saying.. HAHA. But all-in-all, just a perfect series and I for one can't wait to see the future adaptations. — Dean
