Daemons of the Shadow Realm stands as the successor to Fullmetal Alchemist. This completely new series is masterfully crafted by the same acclaimed author, Hiromu Arakawa. While I am very biased because I loved FMA so much, this series honestly does feel like a successor to that story.
It is not a sequel or continuation by any means and features an entirely original story, brand new world, and cast of characters. But what it does carry forward from FMA is Arakawa's signature blend of that fantasy feeling and close family bonds. I mean FMA has already gone down in history for that specific term.
Many fans and critics among myself view it as her bold return to an intense shonen-style battle after her more grounded works and is now delivering us a narrative that's even more relentlessly action oriented than Fullmetal Alchemist was.
The series dives deep into explosive Daemon-powered fights and supernatural duels, and I'm not comparing these two, but if you love Demon Slayer you will most certainly love this one. It has brutal confrontations right from the get go, with crisper pacing, higher stakes, and creative creature designs that feel like a refined evolution of the original author's earlier style.

What Is Daemons of the Shadow Realm About

Daemons of the Shadow Realm, original title: Yomi no Tsugai, is set in a world of fantasy where a certain few selected humans can command powerful supernatural pairs known as Daemons. This series is actually inspired by mythology.
The story centers around two siblings as we see in the very first scene, one blonde named Yuru and his sister with black hair named Asa. Both of these children were born as the prophesied children who sunder day and night. That means they possess the unique birthright to rule over and control all Daemons, however they were separated at birth and kept unaware of their true nature or abilities.
Yuru lives a normal life in a village where he looks after his sister, well at least someone who has her name. She is confined in a prison of sorts, but Yuru doesn't question why she is in this prison. However, their village gets attacked by outside forces wielding Daemons and this is where his real sister, Asa reveals herself to be the true sibling, and the girl who was confined was just a decoy. Yuru awakens his own Daemon power and the twins embark on a journey to reunite, and uncover the truth about their parents disappearance and what their destined roles would be.
How to Watch Daemons of the Shadow Realm in Order
Season 1: Watch all 24 episodes
NOTE: Watching Daemons of the Shadow Realm is simple because the anime follows a single continuous storyline without spin-offs or alternate timelines. The series, which is based on the manga Yomi no Tsugai by Hiromu Arakawa, premiered on April 4, 2026 and ran for two consecutive cours, meaning the first season will air across two back-to-back parts. Because of this, the best way to watch the anime is simply in release order starting from Episode 1, as each episode directly continues the story of Yuru, Asa, and the mysterious Daemons they command. The series is animated by Bones Film and streams globally on Crunchyroll, making it easy for you to follow the story week by week as it unfolds.
Future Seasons

The anime adapts the ongoing manga Yomi no Tsugai by Hiromu Arakawa, so additional seasons are very likely if Season 1 is successful. Based on this authors previous adaption it's highly likely we will get more seasons and ofcourse Studio Bones is adapting this series. This makes it even more possible for future adaptations.
Future installments will likely pick up immediately after the events of Season 1, following Yuru and Asa’s battle against more powerful Daemon users. But to stay ahead, you can read the manga after finishing the first season, but keep in mind that the anime may eventually include original content or changes for pacing.
Editor's Thoughts
Daemons of the Shadow Realm is truly something special, especially given the writer of the series. I have no doubt future seasons will be a huge hit because we have 2 perfect reasons.
First is the writer of course and secondly is a big animation studio who has years and years of credibility behind them and have done incredibly well on all their previous anime.
After reading the manga I was very impressed on how the story captures the siblings and I can't help but be reminded of Fullmetal Alchemist. Their chemistry and bond feels just as deep as FMA's protagonists. I really recommend you guys read the manga as soon as you are done with the anime! — Dean
