Sung Jinwoo might be one of the most powerful protagonists in anime history. Why? Because his powers aren't only immense, they seem close to limitless. Personally, I think his definitely the most powerful. From his early days as a weak E Rank hunter to the end of the story, where he fully controls the powers of the Shadow Monarch passed onto him from the original Shadow Monarch, Ashborn.
The ending gave us all a lot of mixed feelings because of the complete twist of the story, but Jinwoo still remained powerful none the less.
Sung Jinwoo evolves through constant growth, gaining new abilities and extracting more shadows to add to his shadow army. By the end his strength reaches multiversal levels, meaning he can shrug off galaxy level attacks, well, at least in the sequel: Solo Leveling Ragnarok.
Sung Jinwoo's evolution could also be possibly be one of the best executed power progressions in anime and manhwa history. It balances a satisfying way of growth that ultimately turns an underdog into an unstoppable force, mainly due to "the system". The journey from a fragile E Rank hunter to a god like Shadow Monarch is an incredible one and I will break it all down.

Jinwoo goes through a couple of major evolutions or ability increases over the course of the story. This list is ranked from his weakest to his most strongest.
Note: Powers or developments from Solo Leveling: Ragnarok are not included in the original story. The Original author Chugong has clarified that it's not an official direct sequel or true continuation of the main story. Instead, it's a fanservice spin-off set as one of many possible alternate scenarios in the Solo Leveling universe (similar to Marvel's multiverse "What If?" stories). HOWEVER, IF ANYTHING IS ADDED HERE IN THE FUTURE THERE WILL BE A RAGNAROK TAG ADDED TO THAT HEADING "RAGNAROK".
Pre-Reawakening (E-Rank Hunter)

What's a progression story without the main protagonist starting off as the weakest he can be, and more importantly weaker than anyone else. Sung Jinwoo started as a weak E-Rank before entering the double dungeon which would change his life forever. I personally love this type of story rather than an overpowered protagonist just starting out guns blazing. The "leveling up" scenario puts things into perspective and in a way you grow with the protagonist.
E-Rank Jinwoo is far weaker than even a typical E-Rank hunter, this often leaves him weakened during every raid. The only reason why he's actually going into dungeons like this is to support his hospitalized mother and younger sister. This makes him the ultimate person and most worthy one to inherit the Shadow Monarch's abilities. His nickname is also "The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind."
System Awakening (Player Reawakened)

This is one of the most pivotal moments in the series. It's when Jinwoo takes his first steps to becoming the Shadow Monarch and personally, this is when I started to get really into the series. And luckily it was near the start and didn't drag much in the anime to get to this point.
This second awakening marks the end of Jinwoo's powerless era and into the beginning of his rise to becoming not only the strongest hunter, but the strongest being in this universe. The system is introduced and Jinwoo starts leveling from level 0 and learning how the system operates. However at this point he doesn't know the true intention of the system.
Job Change & Necromancer Class (Shadow Extraction Unlocked)

The biggest transformation and the main ability of the Shadow Monarch occurs when Sung Jinwoo hits Level 40. The system issued a warning "job change quest". After Jinwoo accepted, he selects Necromancer, and this is where he was truly granted the power of the Shadow Monarch (Not full power, but a very small percentage of it).
This allows him to extract and command the shadows of fallen enemies such as orcs or even hunters. This happens at the end of season 1 and sets up the perfect arc for season 2. So while season 1 was really good, season 2 is where things really start heating up. Episode 1 of season 2 was probably the most hyped up I've seen this series.

S-Rank Recognition & National-Level Power

This marks the biggest moment in the series and while it's not seen as an actual powerup, it does mark a pivotal moment in the series when he's recognised by the world. This occurs during the Hunter Retesting arc around chapters 61 to 64 and during season 2 in the anime.
However, national level power is an even rarer unofficial tier above the standard S rank. This is reserved for hunters whose strength rivals an entire country's military.
Jinwoo achieves this level post Jeju Island arc when he defeats the National level threats, like Thomas Andre. But this wasn't a battle in the true sense, rather it was entirely one sided. Jinwoo overwhelmingly beat Thomas to an inch of his life and this made him the strongest being on earth. At this time Jinwoo was already at level 100.
Full Shadow Monarch Inheritance

This is when Jinwoo Sung is at his more powerful (ultimate power evolution). This occurs during the climactic Monarchs War Arc which takes place in the much later chapters of the manhwa (170+). During these chapters Jinwoo is granted god like abilities accompanied with the complete shadow dominion (summoning of infinite armies).
This is truly when Jinwoo shines and the abilities he possesses is extremely powerful. This form also cements Jinwoo as the most strongest in existence, even capable of soloing armies of Monarch and potentially (speculation) rewriting reality on a planetary scale.
He has a wider range of skills and abilities now that include:
Core Shadow Monarch Powers (Full Inheritance from Ashborn)
Umbrakinesis: This is the ability to have absolute control over shadows and darkness even reshaping them into any form (e.g., black armor).
Shadow Extraction: This ability allows the extraction of shadows from any defeated enemy's corpse (no level limits post-inheritance). This turns them into loyal shadow soldiers that are instant and unlimited.
Shadow Preservation & Storage: This ability to Store unlimited shadows in his shadow or "pocket dimension".
Shadow Exchange: Uses shadows as portals for instant teleportation across vast distances or dimensions.
Unlimited Inventory: This Stores or retrieves unlimited items from his shadow.
Monarch's Domain: Jinwo can Spread his shadow over a wide area. This grants 50% stat boost to himself and all shadow soldiers within.
Physical Abilities (God-like Stats Post-Inheritance)
Immeasurable Strength
Immeasurable Speed
Immense Durability & Regeneration
Flight: Natural levitation and aerial maneuverability
Passive Abilities (Post-Inheritance)
Agelessness & Immortality
Accelerated Development: The ability to grow stronger per battle. This means continued growth even after inheritance and even surpassing Ashborn himself.
Longevity & Detoxification: Immune to diseases & poisons.
Kandiaru's Blessing: This is an all-around status immunity and also a recovery boost.
Active Combat Skills (Enhanced)
Stealth: Full physical & magical invisibility and presence concealment.
Bloodlust (Murderous Intent): Induces terror.
Quicksilver (Sprint Upgrade): Adds a 30%+ speed boost.
Mutilation & Critical Attack: Vital point slashes.
Dagger Rush/Toss: Barrage dagger attacks from every single angle.
Ruler's Authority (Commander's Touch Upgrade): Ability to use Telekinesis on objects, air and people. Fully upgraded from previous one.
Dragon's Fear: Mana scream causes despair and makes weaker foes panic in fear
Editor's Thoughts

This is one of my top anime of all time, but more importantly, this is my top manwha right next to The Beginning After the End. While stories are good, Solo Leveling, I read/watch it for the pure chaos and what others think of the MC. For example: while Jinwoo Sung is leveling up, he shocks everyone with his power. And I'm sure I'm not alone with this. Who doesn't want to watch a MC show off his skills to make people drool over him, HAHA. This is surely a masterpiece when it comes to a leveling system in an anime adaptation. — Dean
