Your typical anime always features some sort of foe: however, Tomb Raider King relics act as those enemies and as a powerful tool for gaining money and strength. This story has its own unique original spin on treasures.

When mysterious tombs began appearing all over the globe, they brought artifacts with them. One thing that I think is original and unique about this story, is the original creator didn't just say "here, these are the relics and this is what they do." No, the relics are tied to actual historical events. And at the heart of this story, relics are the hidden force that drives chaos, ambition, and supremacy in this world, turning ordinary people into gods or even monsters. However, without any innate ability but rather by stumbling upon these relics.
Relics Aren't Only Tools

While relics as the name implies are treasure, they come with other side effects. These relics as opposed to normal relics, are completely different. These ones are living entities, but are majority of the time arrogant and deceitful. They are born from myths, legends and gods. Each of these relics possess their own personalities, hierarchies, egos and more prominently "Ambition"! We see this from the very start of the story, although there are a few outliers like "the crow" relic.
These relics demand dominance and the common trial they put most humans through but ultimately they possess a near complete autonomy meaning they can act independently as a monster or an ally, but ultimately they seek a king to rule over them all. For example think of Solo Leveling's shadow army or even other mythical creatures being controlled and that willingness to serve ("I need only follow the command"). Another contibuting reason for this is without a compatible owner, they have reduced power and could actually fade away.
To Gain Control Isn't an Easy Feat That Someone Can Pull Off

If these were just simple objects without a mind of their own, they would be incredibly easy to take control of. However, they are living beings, so they naturally refuse to submit to just anyone. Without the potential to become their king, the relic will continue to resist and suppress its power. More harshly, or in the worst-case scenario, they will betray their owner and act independently as a monster.

There are 3 ways to take control of a relic:
Sociability / Affinity: Building a friendly relationship or bond with the relic by matching its needs and then passing its trials, or forming a contract. This is the most common and “easiest” way for most people, often involving pleasing the relic’s personality or desires.
Dominance: Forcibly suppressing and commanding the relic through sheer charisma, willpower, and overbearing pressure (Seo Joo-Heon’s specialty). It’s faster and more aggressive but risks the relic going berserk if your dominance is insufficient.
Compatibility / Synergy: A perfect natural fit between user and relic (like a musician with a music relic), allowing full power with minimal resistance.
The Side Effects of Wielding a Relic Can Be Lethal

When a relic user uses it too frequently or combines many of them at once for a long period of time, or even uses other relics that don’t match their compatibility, they suffer life-threatening side effects like severe sickness, extreme fatigue, body weakness, and in some cases, death. However, in Seo Joo-Heon’s case, he has an ability that makes him completely unaffected.
We see this very early on in the series when he gains control of a samurai sword relic called Muramasa. But this ability grows the more pressure is applied to it. For example, if another relic uses its overpowered ability, Seo’s ability gets stronger, similar to building muscle in a gym.Everyone else, though, would suffer severe cases.
Higher-grade relics carry more risk than lower ones and can even include unique curses like draining the life force or triggering a berserk state, which we see early on. This harsh reality is exactly why most tomb raiders eventually meet a tragic end if they rely too heavily on relics without Seo’s special advantage.
Editor's Thoughts
Tomb Raider King took me by surprise. At the start I thought it was a copy-paste Solo Leveling, but I was surprisingly wrong. This one has its own story and a pretty good one at that. While the main protagonist does have a similar aura and "gigachadness" to him, he’s much different in personality and a lot of other things.
The relics really make this series stand out. For example, with Solo Leveling it focuses around leveling up, Witch Hat Atelier focuses on magic. This one focuses on relics and that is the entire premise because tombs are kind of made through relics as they are the monsters inhabiting these tombs. It’s really a great story with good-looking combat. I’d recommend this one to anyone out there, especially if you like Solo Leveling. — Dean
