Evolution of Grid in Overgeared

From humble beginnings to becoming a god, Grid has been through it all, and honestly, it was such a delight going through his journey in the game of Satisfy. One of the best things about this story is that it's never a be-all end-all plot, the journey is constantly mixing it up with new things.

Let's take the beginning for example: It was simply about Grid making enough money to live off because he was initially an unlucky guy. As soon as that situation was fixed, the author gave us something even more fulfilling like world building and things didn't stop there.
Evolution of Grid in Overgeared
Shin Youngwoo / Grid
At this stage Shin Youngwoo or better known by the in-game alias of "Grid," starts his journey in Satisfy. At this point in his journey, he isn't only suffering from not having money in-game, but in the real world as well. He is also unlucky and was constantly making poor decisions which left him in debt.
But now here's the kicker, unlike naturally talented people or even normal players, Grid was bad at video games. He mainly played Satisfy to make some money in-game which also translates to the real world. This was the foundation of everything and despite him being a terrible gamer, this actually played in his favor.
Legendary Blacksmith
This stage of Grid's evolution is actually where things really kick off, and is where Grid's life changes forever. After obtaining Pagma's Rare Book he becomes Pagma's Successor and gains the ability of the legendary blacksmith. At this point, no one in the world knew who he was and the majority of players were looking for this mysterious blacksmith who creates high quality equipment.
Also, at this stage he was still a terrible fighter, but the ability to create high quality gear gave him an edge that no one else had and a path to become one of the strongest players. This also allowed him to make serious money help his family and pay off his debt. This is also the point where I found myself hooked in the story.
Pagma's Successor
This is when Grid finally takes the biggest step and raises his class to Pagma's Successor. This is also a pivotal time in the series because he becomes well known, because of the international competition that sets players of each nation against other nations. When Grid becomes Pagma's Successor, it takes him into the legendary class.
What makes this class so special is it combines combat and production, making Grid unstoppable. Ultimately at this point Grid also stops being just a lucky person that happens to stumble upon better quests. Rather, he becomes somewhat good at the game and learns to use brain power with skill.

Overgeared King
This is when Grid enters a stage all on its own. This evolution in Grid's journey goes beyond that of just being a powerful player. He becomes the leader who creates his very own nation after gaining independence and establishing the Overgeared Kingdom. He becomes its first king and earns a unique title: "First King." Honestly, at this point in the story, Grid feels almost untouchable and he also seems like a kind and just ruler. He even goes as far as being emotional when an NPC gets injured from players, talk about immersion in a game right?.
Grid's strength is now no longer about himself, he now has an entire kingdom behind him including his members of his very own guild called the Overgeared Guild.
Transcendent Grid
This is when Grid's power and evolution take a massive step forward into the deity field. Grid's Legendary status stops just being legendary, and goes into the realm of Transcendents. (Transcendence is a separate status or concept that comes from exceeding his racial limits and developing his own abilities not an actual rank up)
It vastly improves his physical abilities and gains him Origin True Energy, which is a special resource of sorts associated with Transcendents. From this point, he is fundamentally a different rank of player and not merely a legendary one. I would describe him as going into the realm of angels, but not a god or deity just yet.
Overgeared God
This is the stage Grid's evolution become more solid and it solidifies his godhood. He gained enough divinity and the faith of countless people to put him in this sort of unofficial class. However his legendary class merges into the single mythic class called the Overgeared God. Now he has his own divine domain, the Tempal world and the ability to grant power titles to his believers and his strength transcends the limits of players.
So at this point, Grid's progression has gone far beyond the normal boundaries or limitations of other players. He's no longer simply climbing the ranks of players through levels, classes and equipment. He's developing the authority, divinity and influence of an actual god, which sets the foundation for him going forward.

Editor's Thoughts
Writing out this list, I can see how far the story has actually come and how it has evolved over time. Seeing Grid go from a sad and unlucky guy to one of the most powerful protagonists has honestly been a breath of fresh air. The creativity in this story is mind blowing, and seeing the creator/author change themes at an instant gives you a chance to never get bored.
While the story does typically focus on a game, some people might see that as less immersive, but I genuinely prefer it this way for this series. The game is made in such a way that it has real-life consequences, such as fame and wealth, as a consequence of being the best at the game.
Although the manhwa has come to an end, I really hope we will hear more stories about Grid and this amazing world the author has created.
