Clevatess is a dark fantasy anime that I highly recommend every one to watch! It revolves around a powerful Lord of Dark Beasts known as Clevatess, who destroys a party of thirteen heroes sent to defeat him. However, during his revenge on that city he discovers a royal orphaned baby by accident and decides to raise the child himself.

To help with this task, he binds one of the heroes he previously killed into his service. This sets them all out on a journey full of action, dark humor, and my personal favorite - character driven moments. These moments pull the dark beast who I would describe as a noble knight at heart and more tame that the name "Dark beast" presents.
This series was adapted from the manga of the same name, and written and illustated by Yuji Iwahara, who you might know form his other great works such as Dimension W and King of Thorn.
How to Watch Clevatess in Order

Clevatess started out as a genuine sleeper hit when it dropped back in July 2025. It didn’t explode overnight, but word of mouth between the anime community quietly built and turned the series into a must watch. That first episode, was a full hour long, takes its time laying down the foundation and establishing the world and characters. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to start it.
At first glance it can feel a little slow and slightly measured, and it doesn’t fully capture how strong the story later becomes - especially compared to season 2 which goes more into our familiar realm of a fantasy anime, a magic academy. Once the series finds its rhythm, though, everything clicks. The pacing picks up, the stakes rise entirely, especially in the middle of the season when seeing the compassion between the character, and the narrative grows noticeably richer and much more compelling with each episode. By the time it reached its finale of season 1, what started as a deliberate slow burn had transformed into something far more gripping.

Season 1 Overview

Season 1 of Clevatess follows the start of what will be one of the most passionate and character-driven stories as Alicia, one of thirteen legendary heroes chosen to defeat Clevatess, who is also known as the feared Lord of the Dark Beasts. However, that mission ends in disaster when Clevatess easily defeats the heroes and destroys the kingdom that sent them.
Instead of wiping out humanity completely, he revives Alicia and takes in an orphaned royal baby named Luna, believing the child may hold the key to humanity's future. This season sees him forced into an uneasy partnership with Alicia and Luna (the orphaned baby) as they journey across a war-torn world while facing powerful enemies, uncovering long-hidden truths about the kingdoms, magic, and the legend of the heroes.
Throughout the first season, the story builds toward Season 2 which in my opinion changes the concept completely. I love how to story builds up into season 2. While season 1 felt more like a road trip, season 2 feels right at home, especially with the magic acadamy. While season 1 did have its lows, the season as a whole was really good!
Season 2 Overview

Season 2 of Clevatess picks up almost immediately after the events of the first season as the group Clevatess, Alicia, and Luna leave the war-torn kingdoms that we were so use to behind, and enter a new chapter of their journey to uncover the truth behind the legendary heroes and the growing threat facing the world.
In Season 2, the group infiltrates the Divine Magic Academy, where ancient knowledge lies, political conspiracies are revealed, and even powerful magic users hide secrets that could change everything we thought we knew about this story. As Alicia continues to grow stronger and Clevatess struggles to understand humanity, many more new allies and dangerous enemies come forward and into the spotlight.
While Season 1 was a good journey, it doesn't compare to Season 2. Season 2 feels like we are in our normal place with fantasy anime, being at a school with the protagonists hiding their true powers. But overall, it's a good watch, and Season 2 is definitely worth watching after the first one. My only negative feeling towards it is, we dont see much of Luna.
