The Trailer Gives Us a Lot of Information

After watching the trailer, all that I can say is "WOW, the animation is absolutely stunning!" From the Great Jura Forest to now a mesmerizing underwater kingdom and a breath-taking beach resort, Studio Eight Bit has definitely outdone themselves. Also, Season 4 is right around the corner, and what a perfect way to hype everyone up, than to release a new film. However, unfortunately many people will on see it during the airing of season 4.

The trailer teases the movie's plot, kicking off with Rimuru declaring, "We're here for a vacation!". This is perfectly setting up the relaxed getaway vibe and the true essence of the series, a slice of life. While many people enjoy the action, i kind of really enjoy the chilled vibes that this series brings.

This trailer also confirms the Tempest crew that will be joining: Rimuru, Shion, Shuna, Hinata, Lady Luminous, Ramiris, Benimaru, Souei, and Hakurou. Things escalate when a character named Djeese urges awakening the Great Water Dragon, pulling Rimuru into the conflict after a mysterious woman begs for his help

We also see Rimuru actually fighting the dragon, and this is where the trailer really shines. The animation looks insane, and the theme song does it justice. The theme song is called "Utopia" by TRUE. I honestly can't wait to see this movie, specifically after seeing this scene. This battle looks like an all out brawl with Rimuru, as opposed to Rimuru just swallowing them up with his Beelzebub. This is truly a masterpiece the studio created.

Is This Movie Canon?

This movie is not strictly canon in the traditional sense where it follows the light novel's storyline. It's an original story that was supervised and written by the creator, Fuse. It's also set as a standalone adventure following the events of season 3.

While it's not canon in the traditional sense, it is kind of canon where characters shown in this one will appear later on. For example, in the first movie Scarlet Bond, the princess appears at the end of season 3 during the Tempest festival; the same will likely be done with new characters from this movie. However, they won't play any sort of role in the later seasons; rather, they will be background characters that make it feel like this movie is a part of the universe.

Editor's Thoughts

2026 is shaping up to be an incredible year for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime! and im really excited, afterall it's been a long year since we seen any kind of content. But with Season 4 kicking off on April 3 (streaming on Crunchyroll), and the brand-new movie Tears of the Azure Sea rolling out internationally soon after, the franchise is delivering non-stop content, that means Tensura fans will be eating good for a long time and fingers crossed for some OVAs to round things out, but honestly, it's already looking really good.

I'm super excited about the movie in particular because it's a completely fresh and original story we haven't seen in the light novels or any spin-offs. This shifts the action to the sea and away from the usual land-based adventures. While i do like on land, this will be a refreshing change. The whole vacation vibe, stunning underwater visuals, and that epic dragon battle shown in the trailer could easily make this one an all time favorite for me. — Dean
