This chapter also showcased the power of Rimuru's faithful attendant and Minister of Justice, Testarossa, as deals with the traitor members of the Council of the West. But more importantly, it shifts the focus to the war going on between Granbell Rosso and Rimuru Tempest.
So what could be inside this coffin? The mysterious girl becomes not so mysterious anymore!
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
Luminous wreaks havoc!

During chapter 142 Demon Lord Luminous goes on a rampage because there was a plot to steal the coffin and Grandbell Rosso was behind it all. She emerges from the ground unleashing an extreme amount of mana to instantly reach the battlefield where Rimuru was facing off against Grandbell Rosso. However, things take a turn as Grandbell Rosso uses the massive life energy (love energy) that was stored in his preserved wife Maria Rosso's corpse and turns back time on himself to when he was younger and known as the Hero of Light.
This means he how now restored his prime appearance and power and is preparing to face off against Demon Lord Luminous. But why was Luminous so shaken up about the coffin? what or who exactly was in there?
The Girl in The Coffin

The coffin, which actually refers to the given name "The Holy Ark," is a special magic coffin created by Luminous Valentine using pure condensed holy spiritrons, which is an ice-attribute of holy energy. This serves as a sealing device of sorts that isolates things from time and space.
When time and space get mentioned, there is only one character in this universe that comes to mind, and that is Chloe Aubert, more commonly known in more dated back times as Chronoa, the Masked Hero. The person in the coffin is actually Chloe and her future self (Chronoa). This coffin was hidden in the deepest burial chamber of Lubelius, but it was shattered with Yuuki's ability, Anti-Skill, during all the commotion that was happening above ground beyween Rimuru and Grandbell. During chapter 142 we see the power of Luminous as she shatter all the ground from the deepest depth to reach the battlefield at the top.

Chronoa Was Sealed for a Reason
Chloe (Chronoa) was sealed because of her overwhelming desperation to save Rimuru. In previous timelines Rimuru kept dying, so in order to change that certain doom Chloe merged with Hinata to create one body and went back in time countless times which led to thousands of failed attempts and her sadness, anger and despair built up inside and created a new form called Chronoa. Something which we can think of like Rimuru's Great Sage ability. However, Chronoa on her own was initially created from despair.
In order to lock Chronoa away, at the request of the merged Hinata and Chloe, Luminous created a special coffin known as the Holy Ark to safely lock away the body and suppress Chronoa's rampaging power, specifically for the right time when Rimuru can come and stabilize her.
Luminous Always Knew About Rimuru
Luminous and Chronoa share a rather deep and complicated relationship. During the time when Chloe and Hinata's countless time travels, Luminous became close friends with both of them. This seal has been guarded for hundreds of years and she's been acting as a protector of sorts until the right time. So ultimately even though Chronoa was violent and dangerous, Luminous cared for her as a friend of Chloe and Hinata.
When young Chloe and Hinata time traveled 2000 years ago, they became friends with Luminous and explained the time travel loops and more specifically about Rimuru, the slime who was extremely important to them. Because of this she learned of Rimuru's existence much longer before he was even reincarnated in this current timeline. This is one of the major reasons why she was never hostile towards him and even attended Walpurgis as the servant to check him out.
Editor's Thoughts

To be honest, I don't think there is an anime out there with so much lore like this one. There's something about this series that just resonates well with the isekai community and even if you're not a fan of isekai, the story goes deep. Take this for example: time travel and emerging bodies only gets known much later in the story and ties everything together perfectly. The story ends up making sense and why things happened the way they happened. It feels like One Piece almost where you get drip-fed important info early on only to find out later what it really means.
The story of Chronoa is a sad and fascinating one. It shows real character depth and the bonds between characters which makes them feel alive to us. Truly one of the best series out there and just writing this post reminds me of just how deep this goes. — Dean
