Break vs Seal Powers Explained: The Prophecy Twins’ God Tier Abilities in Daemons of the Shadow Realm

An overarching power in any anime is important because it adds an extra layer for the audiences to anticipate. For example Goku with his Ultra Instinct or Deku with his One For All. I've personally always loved the overpowered powers/mechanics in any anime, especially with the main characters owning this, and in Daemons of the Shadow Realm two of the main characters have this ability. However, these are much more distinct from one another.

These abilities are one of the strongest in the series and they act very similar to Tsugai or Daemons in a certain aspect. Like all things Daemons, balance is very important. What makes these two abilities stand out is how they represent the very core theme of the series. That is absolute opposition or balance. While they may look like simple “offensive vs defensive” powers at first, Break and Seal are actually two halves of the same coin, creation and destruction, freedom and restraint, chaos and order.
Break and Seal Explained
These are two of the most legendary abilities in the series and actually form a balance, because ultimately these are two opposing conceptual powers which are tied to the Prophecy twins, Yuru and Asa. While some might see these abilities tied to Daemons, things are much more complicated than that as these abilities are god-like that can even reshape the world which is why certain clans and factions are on the hunt for the twins of prophecy.
Break
This ability has 5 unique traits, it can forcibly unravel, sever, open, or destroy connections. This can be physical objects, living beings, powers and even daemon contracts as we saw in episode 6 when Asa broke the contract between Ohagi and Daifuku being contracted to Keiichi Hamura. Soon after that she used her blood to contract with the daemons and made them hers, so pretty much this is an overpowered ability.
But as I said, everything in Daemons of the Shadow Realm has balance, now that there's an overpowered ability there needs to be something that can counteract it. That's when Right comes in. Right is a deity level Daemon who is contracted to Yuru the Twin of Night. Right is naturally resistant to Break abilities and can even shrug it off. This makes him the perfect guardian to help keep the twins' god like abilities in check and from going out of control.
Seal
Like the Break ability this one has 5 distinct features: close, contain, bind, enclose, or lock anything including physical objects, people, powers, contracts, barriers, or even abstract concepts like aging. This ability belongs to the Prophecy of Night Yuru. This means he can create unbreakable seals, trap powerful Daemons or stop the natural process entirely.
But like all things, there needs to be a balance, that's why Left is naturally resistant to Seal. Left exists in this world to neutralize Seal's ability.
These Powers Matter to the Story
Each story needs to be built on something, and these powers are what set everything in motion. As we've seen in the very beginning of the series, the twins are hunted down by other clans specifically for these abilities and are closely tied to the Prophecy of Day and Night. However, there are two reasons why clans are hunting them.

First is the obvious one: they want the twins' power to take over the Daemon realm. Secondly, there are those who simply want to protect the world and fear the twins will either shatter or permanently seal the balance between the human and the Daemon realm. As the story progresses, their power becomes unrivalled, which is hard to believe given how overpowered they are at the start of the series.

Editor's Thoughts
The series started off in the right direction with the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist creating yet another masterpiece, and this especially showed when it started airing on places like Crunchyroll for its first season. And it was a massive success. To be honest, I expected that outcome because after the first couple of chapters in the manga I was hooked.
The powers and the overall core of the story (balance) really intrigued me and I think it’s one of those that will go down in history. For me it will definitely be in my Top 20 anime of all time. The unique abilities add a certain flair to the story, on top of the already brilliant idea of Daemons. The bond is always what grips me with these types of stories. It’s something you can immerse yourself in because of that deep connection to the characters. And of course the creator Hiromu Arakawa is known for this exact type of storytelling. While I do love a pure isekai fantasy, this fantasy anime still gets me in that same vibe Truly one of the best anime out there! — Dean
